Ever since the recently introduced Traxxas X-Maxx RC monster truck began hitting store shelves, we’ve read multiple accounts from owners who had their trucks spontaneously catch fire. It appears that Traxxas has recognized the problem and are now offering a fix. They just announced the availability of a free fusible link wire which acts as a fuse that will blow under a higher than normal amperage draw. What isn’t clear is if this is just a temporary fix or if Traxxas will recall the X-Maxx’s VXL-6s ESC in the future. From their recent statement, it sounds like they will only do so if the US Consumer Product Safety Commission requires them to. That leads to the concern of owners who are wondering what will happen if the fusible link blows. Will they be forced to keep replacing it over and over? What are your thoughts on this?
We have identified an issue with the VXL-6s Electronic Speed Control that could lead to fire. We have a fusible link available to solve this issue. The VXL-6s ESC is sold separately or with the Traxxas X-Maxx monster truck, 77076-4. We are working with the CPSC on a voluntary recall and should announce that in the coming days. In the meantime, if you’d like to get your fusible link, please enter your serial number in the field below to see if your model is affected. If it is affected, chose one of the options below. If the CPSC requires anything more than the fusible link, we will update this page and contact affected customers.
