Traxxas SportMaxx

Traxxas SportMaxxIn 2003, Traxxas released the SportMaxx monster truck. The SportMaxx was based on Traxxas’ popular T-Maxx monster truck but with multiple items removed to save weight and reduce costs. Since those parts included the truck’s entire front driveline and front differential, the SportMaxx was 2wd only. The T-Maxx’s 2 speed reverse transmission was also swapped out for a single speed, forward only unit. The result was a full pound lighter overall weight, as well as a $100+ lower cost.

The Traxxas SportMaxx retained most of the T-Maxx’s other features like its 3mm aluminum chassis, double wishbone independent suspension, eight oil filled shock absorbers and the TRX 2.5 nitro powerplant. The SportMaxx was outfitted with a newly styled Prographix pre-painted body and slightly different wheels. It retained the use of the T-Maxx’s chevron pattern 3.2“ tires. Traxxas knew that many owners of the SportMaxx would eventually want to upgrade the truck to full T-Maxx specs, so they offered three upgrade packages, each putting you one step closer to that goal. Those included a 4wd upgrade kit, 2 speed upgrade kit and reverse upgrade kit.

When the SportMaxx was discontinued, Traxxas released a very similar T-Maxx based 2wd RC truck called the S-Maxx which was only available for purchase at Hobbytown USA stores.
