Team Xray unveils the 2017 update to their popular NT1 nitro RC touring car! The new Team Xray NT1 2017 Edition features an all new chassis, redesigned rear bulkheads, updated aluminum 2 speed shaft bulkheads, new thicker graphite rear shock tower, new graphite roll center bridge, updated aluminum upper arm holders, revised softer upper suspension arms, upgraded pivot balls, new radio tray and mounts, redesigned engine mounts and much more. The new Team Xray NT1 2017 chassis has a larger opening under the front suspension area for better forward traction and improved steering characteristics. The engine area of the chassis has been redesigned as well. The matching opening for the flywheel opening has been added to the other side of the chassis for equal flex. Unneeded cooling cutouts under the engine area has been removed, giving better reinforcement in the engine area.
The redesigned chassis offer improved performance in corners and provides superior stability. The chassis is 2mm narrower overall to increase chassis flex and generate more traction and steering. The narrower chassis also prevents chassis contact during cornering, and helps to eliminate the car ‘stopping‘ in mid-corner.
The Team Xray NT1 2017 chassis has been completetely redesigned to work with the new aluminum suspension flex system. The area under the rear suspension is stiffer for improved stability. The aluminum rear-front 1-piece suspension holder is inserted into the chassis for better centering. The cutouts under the arm area allows the use of the lower roll-center position without arm modification. The chassis is 2mm longer to allow adjustment of the rear wheelbase, which allows the arms to be moved rearward for improved traction.
The new 2-speed layshaft rear bulkheads fit inside the chassis for better and more precise placement and alignment. An extra third attachment point on the layshaft rear bulkheds allows even greater reinforcement of the layshaft area.
The Team Xray NT1 2017 main backbone of the car consists of high-precision, high-strenghth aluminum bulkheads and aluminum suspension holders mounted to the aluminum chassis. All bulkhead parts are CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and have been designed to provide the lightest and strongest possible support framework for the car with maximum flex characteristics to increase the traction. The bulkheads are anodized in a distinctive orange color. XRAY’s legendary attention to detail is noticeable in all the precisely chamfered edges.
The Xray NT1 2017 aluminum rear bulkheads have been completely redesigned. The mounting positions to the chassis below the 2-speed axle were removed, and the bulkheads are now mounted into the rear-front suspension holder for improved flex characteristics and traction. The bulkheads have special cutouts for precise centering into the rear-front suspension holder.
Rear Upper Clamps
New aluminum rear upper clamps were redesigned to work with the new rear bulkheads, and offer increased durability. The clamps hold the rear shock tower as well as the graphite roll-center bridge. For extra roll-center adjustment, the graphite roll-center bridge can be removed and the rear linkage can be mounted directly to the upper clamps to improve cornering speed and steering in very high-traction conditions. The super-lightweight clamps have a very clean and lightweight design to create the lowest weight and CG, making the NT1 easy to service and retaining easy access to all parts. The rear upper clamps are CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum to provide the lightest & strongest support framework for the car
Upper Arm Holders
Redesigned front upper arm holders not to touch front bulkheads, offering improved flex of the front suspension, and better forward traction.
Middle Shaft Holder
The new NT1 2017 aluminum front middle shaft holder is now inserted into the chassis for better centering. The smart design allows easier access to the front belt and pulley for quick & easy front belt changes and maintenance. The muffler mounting system is incorporated into the front middle shaft holder. This design helps to ensure that the muffler is mounted independently from the radio plate and chassis so there is no flex transfer. The extra-long muffler wire fits all standard mufflers.
Radio Plate Mounts
All-new Team Xray NT1 2017 radio plate mounts are made from Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum instead of composite material for improved flex characteristics. The mounts are now located equidistant from the center centerline, as well as inline for more equal chassis flex characteristics.
The new NT1 2-speed layshaft rear bulkheads were redesigned to fit inside of the chassis for better and more precise placement. The bulkheads have an extra mounting position – 3 screws instead of 2 – for even greater reinforcement of the rear layshaft area and improved on-power stability. The new bulkheads are an integral part of the chassis Multi-Flex system that offers the choice of different flex adjustments. The new 2-speed layshaft rear bulkheads allow lower mounting of the 2-speed shaft to decrease the CG of the rotating parts.
A new Team Xray NT1 2017 radio plate design allows mounting of the plate on the new equidistant, aligned aluminum radio plate mounts for more equal chassis flex characteristics. The front part of the radio plate was redesigned for improved in-corner steering, as well as improved flex of the front suspension for better forward traction. Front Multi-Flex adjustment via the radio plate bushing in the servo saver area is a very useful feature. When the bushing is installed, the fixed setting is activated; when the bushing is removed, the screw is directly mounted on the servo saver post and the whole front suspension has increased flex. The fixed setting is recommended when there is sufficient in-corner steering. To increase the in-corner steering, the flex setting can be easily adjusted.
Rear Suspension Multi-Flex
The rear suspension design features Multi-Flex quick adjustment to easily adapt the handling of the car to particular track conditions and tires used. There are 2 different flex characteristics to choose from: SOFT – Graphite brace is not used. This allows flex in the rear suspension and generates more rear traction. Recommended for low traction tracks, or races with spec hard or large tires. STIFF – Graphite brace is connected to the 2-speed bulkheads. This setting reduces flex in the rear suspension and improves out-of-corner steering and rotation, but also slightly decreases rear traction. Recommended for medium-high-traction tracks, or when tires with additive are used.
All-new Xray NT1 2017 graphite rear shock tower is machined from thicker graphite 3.5 material for improved high-speed steering. Body posts are mounted wider on the shock tower for better stability. Machined from premium grade 2.5mm (front) and 3.5mm (rear) graphite, the shock towers are small and lightweight. The well-proven shock mounting positions remain unchanged.
Rear Graphite Stiffener
The redesigned Team Xray NT1 2017 rear stiffener made from 2mm graphite material works with the new aluminum radio plate mounts. The graphite stiffener replaces the previous link for increased stability.The rear graphite stiffener was designed to enhance the flex characteristics around the engine area. The brace is mounted on the right side between the 2-speed bulkhead and the adjacent aluminum radio plate mount. The graphite stiffener provides optimized flex characteristics and can be easily removed when extra steering needed. An optional rear stiffener link is available to offer an in-between stiffness setting.
New graphite roll-center bridge made from thicker 4mm material removes unwanted flex of the rear suspension and improves cornering speed. The roll-center bridge features six roll-center positions for the rear upper linkage (identical to previous versions).
The brake pads are made from the new SLS material for smoother, more consistent braking. Brake inputs are transferred precisely to the brakes by the ball-raced, super-smooth brake cam. The steel brake cam is machined from self-developed HUDY Spring Steel to ensure the longest possible lifespan, maximum strength, and lowest weight. Brake pad backing plates are made from laser-cut steel. The laser-cut, precision flat-ground ventilated steel brake disk allows for true, wobble-free rotation.
Lower Suspension Mounts
The aluminum rear-front 1-piece suspension holder was redesigned to allow mounting of the rear bulkheads into the holder for improved flex of the rear suspension. The 1-piece holder is now inserted into the chassis for a better centering. Front suspension holders are fully independent from the bulkheads, mounted directly to the chassis to increase traction and make the car easier to drive. Suspension mounts were redesigned to retain the NT1’s well-proven geometry. The mounting positions on the chassis were established to achieve the best possible flex characteristics for maximum traction and steering characteristics.
New NT1 2017 front upper arms are made from softer material for improved in-corner steering and better forward traction. The NT1 suspension arms are the result of long-term testing of different designs and layouts. Length, thickness, flexibility, geometry of suspension points and materials used… these are all the concepts and details that had to be thoroughly reviewed to create optimal suspension arms. The exclusive composite mixture used for suspension arms is a perfect balance between reliability and performance. The suspension arm itself is rigid enough to provide a responsive feel, yet soft enough to provide extreme durability.
New rear lower pivot pins are now longer to allow adjustment of the rear wheelbase by moving the rear lower arms 2mm rearward that increases the rear traction and stability of the car.
New NT1 front steel suspension pivot balls have a smaller diameter between the ball and thread to allow an increase in steering angle for increased cornering speed and out-of-corner steering. The NT1 pivot ball suspension contains precision pivot balls which are specially hardened for enhanced lifespan and to withstand hard crashes. A total of eight (8) pivot balls are included, captured by strong M10 composite nuts to minimize weight and give smooth suspension movement. Standard pivot balls are made from steel for maximum durability and lifespan. Optional lightweight aluminum or titanium pivot balls are also available.
New adjustable side-belt tensioner is now mounted directly to the aluminum radio plate holder instead of graphite mount that eliminates wear.
Front Wire Anti-roll Bar
An all-new 2.0mm (softer) front anti-roll bar wire is included for improved in-corner steering. The NT1 includes both wire & blade-style front anti-roll bars for freedom of choice based on track conditions. The wire anti-roll bar is used to increase steering response on small, technical tracks. The wire anti-roll bar is mounted to the bulkheads from the outside to allow quick & easy changes and adjustment. The wire roll bar turns in ball-bearings for maximum precision and freedom of movement. Anti-roll bar height can be quickly & easily adjusted.
All-new redesigned engine mounts offer improved and more equal chassis flex under the engine area.
Premium & Exclusive Materials
The NT1 is luxury model racing car and as such features only the finest, most premium materials: premium woven graphite – exclusive top-secret HUDY Spring Steel – high grade Swiss 7075 T6 – high-tensile heat-treated steel and aircraft aluminum – and XRAY’s self-developed and formulated composite compounds. All is premium and unique on the NT1.
When it comes to setting new standards in the RC industry, XRAY is always leading the pack in bringing new and innovative engineering ideas and solutions, raising the bar and quickly becoming the new market standard for others to follow. XRAY’s innovative Multi-Flex Technology (MFT) was originally designed for 1/10 electric touring cars, and has resulted in some of the most significant milestones in touring car development in the past several years. This innovation not only received numerous awards and honors, but it has proven to be a distinct competitive advantage at racetracks worldwide… helping XRAY dominate races everywhere from local to international events. The NT1 was the first nitro touring car featuring the Multi-Flex system.
Fuel Tank Mounting
The 75cc fuel tank with hypertonic tank lid and internal stone-type filter is positioned in the center of the car, and features a unique low-profile design to allow the fuel tank to sit as low as possible. The fuel tank is mounted with rummber grommets and O-ring with a special screw to reduce vibration. With extra space around the fuel tank in the radio plate, the fuel tank has greater movement in all directions which improves fuel pickup and scavenging as fuel is used up. The fuel tank is molded from a special composite mixture which guarantees it to be extremely strong and robust. The fuel tank is glued together using a special self-developed robotic system that ensures maximum accuracy and precision in pre-heating and gluing. The receiver battery pack is located beneath the fuel tank to help create a low CG. Using the optional micro-size receiver battery pack allows the fuel tank to be lowered by another 3mm, creating an ultra-low nitro touring platform.
The battery holder allows to fit the most common LiPo or LiFe batteries. The receiver battery pack can be easily removed from below the fuel tank by a quick access composite cover at the bottom of the chassis. Optional graphite cover contains a special CNC-machined pocket in which to place the batteries, allowing the batteries to sit as low as possible. The main feature of the graphite cover is its integrated Multi-Flex Technology™ functionality to additionally reinforce the chassis in the vertical plane.
Compact lightweight radio case features a clean design and layout. The radio case is attached to the side of the radio plate and will fit any standard-size receiver and optional switch with water-resistant rubber cover.
The shocks provide maximum traction and steering characteristics, and optimized up & down travel. Long shock bodies accommodate the long shock shafts, and pistons are made from special white Delrin™ material with optimized hole number and sizes. Shock rods have been specifically hardened to ensure long life and maximum strength. The set of pistons include 2 and 3-hole pistons with 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2mm diameter holes. The pistons are molded using special methods from Delrin™ material to ensure extreme roundness, while maintaining maximum stiffness and durability. Shock bodies are CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and hardened to ensure maximum lifespan. External fine threading allows for quick & easy ride height adjustment. The shocks feature low-profile membranes for super-smooth, precise damping.
The NT1 comes equipped with C5.4 springs in the front to provide maximum stability and steering, and C4.0 springs in the rear to provide maximum traction and cornering speed. The NT1 springs, like all other XRAY springs, are manually measured, selected and matched into pairs to guarantee precisely equal length and damping characteristics.
With the intelligent design and construction of all drivetrain parts, the transmission is supersmooth and low-friction. From the small diffs, through the efficient ratios and lightweight pulleys, to the high-speed lightly-oiled bearings and lightweight drivetrain parts, all parts are designed for maximum efficiency and durability.
The tiny drive shafts are manufactured from HUDY Spring Steel, the most effective drive shaft material by the industry leader HUDY. Self-developed HUDY Spring Steel ensures the longest possible drive shaft life, maximum strength, and lowest weight. NT1 front constant velocity drives (CVDs) and rear dogbone drive shafts are manufactured from HUDY Spring Steel. The drive shafts are some of the world‘s thinnest yet most durable drive shafts used. The rear drivetrain features dogbone drive shafts which help to generate more traction for the car. To accommodate the dogbone style drive shafts, the rear wheel axles were also updated. Hardened with a proprietary process, the drive shafts provide unbeatable lifetime and reliability.
The diffs in the NT1 are small and light, ensuring lowest rotating mass and lowest CG. Rubber-sealed composite differential housings are molded from a special composite mixture that ensures non-expansion and non-deformation during operation and long runs, which would otherwise negatively influence the free movement of the gears inside. Differential gears are made from pressed steel, heat-treated and machined for ultra-precise and smooth operation.
All pulleys are molded from a special composite mixture to ensure low-friction operation, efficient and strong tooth profiles, and long lifespan.
PUR Drive Belts
The drivetrain includes PUR-reinforced high-efficiency, low-friction drive belts to ensure that power is properly & efficiently transferred to all drivetrain parts. 2-speed Transmission. The 2-speed transmission parts are installed on a precision-manufactured super-smooth middle layshaft made from tough HUDY shaft steel for 2-speed, which is additionally heat-treated for extra strength and long life. The 2-speed gear adapter is CNC-machined from Swiss 7075 T6 for precise fitting of the one-way bearing, and allowing super-precise and wobble-free installation of the spur gears. The high-quality German one-way bearing is hand-ground before installation for maximum running precision and strength. The 2-speed adapter is manufactured from hardened steel.
The reverse clutch design provides smoother and faster acceleration, while increasing the lifespan of the clutch shoe. Easily-adjustable 3-shoe XCA (XRAY Centrifugal-Axial) clutch features clutchbell, clutch nut, flywheel nut, and thrustbearing collar made from exclusive HUDY
The hardcoated flywheel, clutch disc, and spring cup are made from premium Swiss 7075 T6.
Spur Gears. Precision-molded spur gears are made from XRAY’s exclusive secret blend of composite material, allowing the gears to run true and super quiet, and be robust enough to handle the power of a modern nitro engine. The spur gears are molded with a special technique allowing the gears to be absolutely true thus improving the drivetrain efficiency. Each gear is stamped with a tooth number for easy identification. The intelligent engine mount design allows the setting & fixing of the engine position to ensure optimal gear mesh. Thanks to the specially-shaped gear teeth, the gears always have the same gear mesh which ensures that the engine can be set in position without the need for constant fine-tuning. After initial gear mesh is set, the engine position is permanently set; the engine can be installed & re-installed repeatedly without the need to re-adjust the gear mesh.
NT1 includes XRAY pinion gears machined from tough 7075 T6 alu and specially hardcoated for supreme strength, light weight, and high durability. Created on a special gear machine, all pinions feature ultra-precise tooth shaping and ultra-true running for vibration-free operation. Fine internal threading allows easy installation on XCA clutchbells (standard or lightweight versions). Each pinion is fine etched with the tooth number for easy & quick identification.
Front Upper Clamps
The front aluminum upper clamps are connected with the aluminum upper arm holder to reinforce the front suspension and give improved steering characteristics. The super-lightweight upper clamps have a very clean and lightweight design to create the lowest weight and CG, making the NT1 easy to service and retaining easy access to all parts.
Integrated Belt Tensioning
Both front & rear upper clamps feature integrated belt-tension adjustment using adjustable bearing eccentric holders. All ball-bearings turn in composite hubs to reduce friction and improve drivetrain efficiency.
Integrated Suspension Settings
The NT1 features I.S.S. (Integrated Suspension Settings) design. All adjustment possibilities are completely integrated, allowing complete set-up changes without changing or replacing any parts – no need for optional roll-center, anti-dive or anti-squat blocks. Using eccentric bushings anti-dive and anti-squat can be adjusted easily. High-tensile steel suspension pivot pins are polished for smooth suspension action, and all pivot pins are captured to eliminate the need for E-clips.
The tiny yet tough steering blocks are molded from a special composite mixture for maximum strength. Thanks to perfect molding, bearings fit into the steering block without any extra play to give maximum stability. The steering blocks were designed for use with an aluminum Ackermann plate which allows greate Ackermann and bump-steer adjustment range. The aluminum Ackermann plate is mounted to the steering block and features 3 different Ackermann positions. The plate is also mounted lower compared to previous steering block designs, which allows the steering linkage to be moved lower to gain more bumpsteer (giving increased steering response and improved in-corner steering). Bump steer can be easily changed by adding or removing shims. The kit includes 0° kingpin steering blocks. Optional 1° kingpin steering blocks are available for more in-corner steering. The steering blocks also accommodate the mounting of optional graphite Aero discs for improved steering.
The compact rear uprights are small in size but are very strong due to the special composite mixture used. Thanks to perfect molding, bearings fit into the rear uprights without any extra play and therefore give maximum stability. The rear uprights feature 2 positions for mounting the upper roll-center linkage, to allow changes to the roll-center position. The rear uprights accommodate the mounting of optional graphite Aero discs for improved stability and traction.
Front Blade Anti-roll Bars
The blade anti-roll bar is used for improved cornering speed on larger, open tracks. The front blade-style anti-roll bar is fully-adjustable, and is fully independent from downstop adjustment. The hand-ground front anti-roll bar blades — manufactured from HUDY Spring Steel™ for long lifespan — are easily adjusted using a 1.5mm hex wrench.
Rear Anti-roll Bar
Rear anti-roll bar height is adjustable via a screw…quick & easy. The kit includes a 2.0mm wire rear anti-roll bar. The thickness of each anti-roll bar is laser-engraved for easy identification. Anti-roll bar wires of different thickness are optionally available for fine-tuning.
Alu Hex Hubs
Ultra-lightweight wheel hex drive hubs are CNC-machined from Swiss 7075 T6 black-coated aluminum. These ultra-true hex hubs have a clamping design which ensures ultra-solid mounting of the wheel on the hub. The alu hex hubs are specially machined to reduce rotating weight while guaranteeing wobble-free wheel mounting. Optional offsets of -0.75mm and +0.75mm are available to adjust track-width.
To guarantee maximum reliability, all turnbuckles are manufactured from special HUDY Spring Steel™ material for turnbuckles for maximum core strength.
Car holder features an eyelet which allows the fuel tank opener string to be captured securely and ensure more consistent refueling.
The centralized servo saver is ball-raced to ensure super-precise, smooth operation, and adjustable spring preload tension allows for fine tuning. The servo saver also features easily-adjustable Ackermann positions with easy-to-change inserts which greatly influence the steering characteristics, allowing the NT1 to be adjusted for driving styles and track conditions.
The compact front foam bumper is made from high-resilience, lightweight foam. The front upper bumper holder and lower composite bumper are molded from rigid composite to withstand hard crashes.
The NT1 2017 is fully ball-bearing equipped and features high-speed, blue-sealed ball-bearings throughout the drivetrain for maximum drivetrain efficiency. The high-tolerance, high-performance bearings are degreased and lightly oiled with Aero Shell Fluid 12 for maximum smoothness and long life. The main ball-bearings are oversized with extra-strong bearing frames to ensure smooth, efficient running even under extreme conditions.
