For as long as the RC hobby has been around, motors and electronic speed controls have been two separate units that are connected together via a series of wires. Team Orion is looking to change that with their new Vortex dDrive Power Unit. As the name implies, the dDrive Power Unit combines a brushless motor and ESC into one unit. The result is a very compact power system that saves space and weight, the perfect solution for the tight confines of a 1/10 scale RC cars chassis. Just like Team Orion’s conventional brushless systems, the Vortex dDrive Power Unit comes packed with high performance features including a powerful 4 pole brushless motor, CNC machined aluminum case for high efficiency cooling, adjustable performance settings, a low voltage cut off system, and overheat protection. The dDrive will be offered in 2700Kv and 3000Kv ratings, both with deans battery connectors pre-installed. While there’s no word if Team Orion plans to offer even more Power Units down the line, we suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more of this technology, from Orion and many other manufacturers as well.
