Marui Big Bear
The Big Bear Datsun was a 1/12 scale RC monster truck produced by Marui in 1984. The Big Bear was one of Marui’s best selling RC kits thanks to its high detailed styrene Datsun pickup truck body which included a drivers figure, as well as its large chevron tread monster truck style tires. Other features include a plastic tub chassis, solid axle rear suspension, friction coilover shock absorbers, Mabuchi M480-RS brushed motor and mechanical speed control. Protecting the body and front suspension was a coil spring dampened front bumper. The original release of the Marui Big Bear had a set of 48 pitch metric differential gears that were prone to strip. To solve this problem, Marui released a replacement differential gear set that consisted of larger 32 pitch gears and a new gear ratio. When Marui re-released the Big Bear, the new gears were included in the kit. The new Big Bear kit also included a revised mechanical speed control, motor heatsink and a larger Mabuchi RS540-SH motor. Due to increased competition in the market, Marui ceased production of the Big Bear and the rest of its RC car lineup by the mid 90s.
