If you’ve been following the latest R/C news then you’ve no doubt heard about HPI’s ground breaking 1/8 scale gasoline powered RC truck, the Savage Octane XL. In December HPI gave us a sneak peak of the Savage Octane but never said when to expect a closer look. It turns out HPI had one on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany last week and posted these photos on their Facebook page. First impression? This thing is badass! Second impression? By the looks of the fuel tank, tuned pipe, radio boxes and a few other odds and ends, which all appear to be 3D printed early prototypes, we are probably quite some time from seeing these on hobby shop shelves. A few other things to note are the huge cooling head and cooling fan assemblies. Apparently, the Savage Octane’s 15cc powerplant runs quite hot. Also note the weird positioning of the air filter assembly to make clearance for the cooling fan. While HPI is still tight lipped about when these will go on sale they did say to expect to hear more about this amazing R/C truck later this year. In the mean time go check out the Savage Octane XL pictures! Update: The HPI Savage Octane has been officially revealed!
