Tamiya TXT-1 Build Pictures

Tamiya TXT-1 Build PicturesOne of the more visually stunning RC trucks to ever come out of the Tamiya factory has to be the TXT-1 monster truck. From afar it looks basically like a Tamiya Clod Buster with an aftermarket chassis, but up close it’s a different story completely. Unlike the Clod, with its dual axle mounted motors, the Tamiya TXT-1 features dual motors that are mounted up in the chassis. Power runs from the transmission, through driveshafts, and out to the axles, just like a full size monster truck. Even better, the TXT-1 features a beautifully machined aluminum chassis, a four link suspension, sway bars and a set of chrome wheels. In reality, the only thing the TXT-1 and Clod Buster have in common are those giant chevron tires. I’ve been wanting to build one of these awesome trucks since I first laid my eyes on one and I have finally gotten that chance. Follow along as I document the build of the Tamiya TXT-1 with over 90 pictures! Read more…

Axial Exo Terra WallpaperThis past Christmas season yours truly was ecstatic to find that his loving family was generous enough to leave one of his most sought after gifts under the tree. No it wasn’t a Red RyderBB gun, it was the Axial Exo Terra! Even though I dove into that box late Christmas night and starting assembling this beautiful buggy as soon as possible, piles of snow and everyday life leads us to this point over six months later. Meet Project Exo! Join along as I document an Axial Exo Terra build from start to finish with tons of photos and whatever information I can remember along the way. Then we’ll take it for a spin and see how she does! Read more…

Tamiya Blackfoot Xtreme Build Pictures

Tamiya Blackfoot XtremeThere is no denying that the Tamiya Blackfoot has a special place in my heart. While it wasn’t the first RC kit I built from scratch, it was the first hobby grade RC truck I ever owned. Unfortunately that Tamiya Blackfoot has been lost to time, but since the Blackfoot has been re-released and re-designed by Tamiya multiple times, you can still buy one brand new kit form today. Granted, the pictures you see here, a build of the Tamiya Blackfoot Xtreme, isn’t quite like the original, but thanks to its body, wheels and tires, it still holds much of that charm that made the original Blackfoot so popular. Follow along as we document the building of our very own Tamiya Blackfoot Xtreme and take it out for a good bashing. Read more…

R/C Truck Build Articles

R/C Truck ProjectsIf you’re an R/C truck enthusiast then you may have come across our sister site Clodzone. Sadly we have decided to close that site down to focus solely on RCNewz.com but there is a silver lining to this cloud. We’ve decided transfer all of the R/C truck build articles we’ve written for Clodzone over to this site! Now you can read through our Axial Scorpion build, Clodzilla II build, Tamiya Land Cruiser build, Team Associated SC10 build and more! Be sure to check them out under our new category R/C Builds. Also if you’re in the process of building an R/C car or truck kit yourself, why not take a bunch of pics and send them our way. Who knows, maybe your build will be the next to be featured right here!

Pictures: Building The Tamiya Lunch Box

Tamiya Lunch Box BuildI don’t think it comes to the surprise of anyone who frequents this site that we here at RCNewz.com are big fans of Tamiya vehicles. The reasoning is simple, they offer many of their R/C cars and trucks in kit form and we love building kits. Kits were the cornerstone of what made this hobby so great back in the day and we hope to see more of them. In the past we’ve built a few other Tamiya R/C trucks but in those builds we went into detail on how everything assembled. For this build, however, we’re doing things a little different. With the Tamiya Lunch Box being such an easy to assemble kit we felt that the details weren’t needed. Instead this entire build is little more than pictures with quick descriptions! Enjoy!

Project Short Course: Team Associated SC10 Build

team_associated_sc10We just had to get one, it was inevitable. I’ll be the first to admit that after the Traxxas Slash was released I thought the short course race truck craze was nothing but a fad that would soon be all but forgotten. After all these are nothing more than stadium trucks with different tires and a larger body. What could really be that great? Then one day at the local hobby shop I saw one sitting on the shelf begging to be bought and the rest, as they say, is history. Here goes, our Team associated SC10 build.

Project Wrangler: Tamiya CC01 Jeep Wrangler Build

tamiya_jeep_wrangler_01The Tamiya Jeep Wrangler hard body has to be one of the most sought after Tamiya lids ever made. It first appeared on the CC-01 chassis as an ultra scale R/C truck, but when that vehicle was discontinued those looking for one of these bodies had no choice but scour ebay for one and sell their first born child to be able to afford it. Then late last year Tamiya announced that it would yet again release this body but this time it would be included with the CR01 rock crawling chassis. I can only imagine how many people must have bought that kit just for the body. Thankfully earlier this year Tamiya decided to yet again release this awesome shell back on the CC01 chassis. We bought one and the build begins…

Project Three Speed: Tamiya High Lift Build

projectthreespeedJust as we look back at the Tamiya Bruiser with great fondness I think years from now we’ll also be looking back at the Tamiya F350 High Lift as a kit we all wish we could have had. Personally I’ve been wanting to build one of these from the second I laid eyes on one so when the opportunity came up for us to acquire a brand spanking new HighLift kit we just couldn’t let it slip away. So follow along with us as we build the Tamiya High Lift aka Project Three Speed with a little customizing along the way.

We finally got the truck assembled, painted, and detailed so what’s left to do? Beat on it! We’ve been eagerly awaiting our chance to take the Tamiya Land Cruiser 40 out and see how she compares to the various other crawlers on the market, most notably our Axial Scorpion. How will she fare? What will break? Only way to find out is to read Part 3 of Project FJ40. After the jump we’ve got the full scoop on what we thought of the CR01 and a bunch of pictures from the trail.
