Team Magic E4RS II Evo Touring Car

Team Magic E4RS II EvoAfter a year and a half of successful results (3 national titles and several victories), it was the time to update the Team Magic E4RS II. That said, it was necessary to don’t “change for change”, and especially to don’t destroy what already works well. The current trend, firstly imposed by manufacturers, and now asked by the drivers, is lowering the centre of gravity. Team Magic had already previously released a car with an ultra-low centre of gravity (E4). Although the idea seems a great idea at a first glance, lowering the centre of gravity excessively can make it difficult to find a good setup. Read more…

RB Products Automatic Damping System

RB Products Automatic Damping System ADS If you’re been in this hobby for any length of time you know that the holy grail of RC racing is to have a truly progressive shock that gives you a soft smooth action lower in its travel, while getting harder toward the top of its stroke. Unfortunately many products have come and gone yet nobody has been able to make one work on such a small scale. The folks at RB Products are taking a swing at the problem with their unique Automatic Damping System (ADS). Unlike conventional RC car shocks, ADS features special CNC machined solid Delrin pistons which ride in sleeves with v shaped notches in them. The way they work is, as the shock travels up its stroke the solid piston pushes oil through the v shaped notches. Since the notch gets smaller and smaller toward the top of the shock’s travel it gets harder and harder for oil to be pushed through. The result is a highly progressive shock action. Initially the RB ADS shock system will be available for a few high end rc race buggies including the Mugen MBX7, Kyosho MP9 and the Losi 8ight. Stay tuned for more information and in the mean time go check out the diagrams to get a better idea how they work. Read more…

JConcepts Tekno EB48 Finnisher Body

JConcepts Tekno EB48 BodyWhile the body that Tekno includes with their 1/8 scale electric buggy, the EB48, is quite a gem, if you race your buggy there is definitely going to come a time where a new lid is in order. In comes JConcepts with just what you need. The new JConcepts Finnisher body for the Tekno EB48 Buggy has all the features of the previously released Finnisher lids including a cab forward design which reportedly improves steering performance in low traction situations, side pods which have been simplified for better aerodynamics, a tightening of the chassis to body fit which eliminates empty voids that contribute to mid-flight directional changes, and dual louvers toward the rear that can be trimmed to allow air to escape at the top of the body. The rear portion of the side-pod area has also been lowered to create another louver which can be trimmed as another avenue to allow heat to escape. The motor side of the pods also have a direct inlet which can be trimmed and used as another air-flow feature of the body. Read more…

Testors Kills Pactra RC Paint Line

Pactra Paint RCThe end of an era? If you’re like us you’ve been using the Pactra line of RC paints since the first day you stepped into this hobby. Unfortunately Pactra’s parent company Testors has announced that it will be discontinuing the paint line along with Floquil and Polyscale, which are used in the train hobby, as well as Colorartz craft paint. Testors cited the reason for this change being the shift in the RC hobby from kits with clear bodies to ready to run vehicles which come with pre-painted bodies. The company will be closing a 115,000 square foot facility located in Rockford, IL and gone with it will be an unknown number of jobs. Its remaining workforce will be relocated to a 27,000 square foot facility just up the road. You have to wonder who will fill the void left in the RC hobby by the demise of Pactra. Read the full press release after the jump! Read more…

JConcepts Agama A8 Evo Body PictureJConcepts has studied the evolution of race tracks, complicated circuits combining more aggressive jumps and extremely high-speed corners, and has incorporated many new features in to the Finnisher Agama A8 Evo, which provide several benefits in the most critical situations. Increased windshield angle provides a steady force upfront during mid-flight wind gusts on large jumps. Forward cab placement changes performance / visible bias which helps steering rotation in low traction corners. A slightly channeled roof-line helps stabilize the vehicle at high-speed.
